The Dawn of Christmas Day

Words & Music by Christopher Kent

In the little town of Bethlehem
On a clear and moonless night
In the early hours of morning
The wind is calm, the stars are bright
Sheep are resting on the hillside
Underneath the starry skies
That dimly light the manger
Where a newborn baby lies

Soon the sun will rise upon this life that’s just begun
This child who’s come to change the world and bring hope to everyone
The baby lies in silence, but he knows the words he’ll say
And the darkness will begin to fade
With the dawn of Christmas day

His eyes are wide and peaceful
In the early morning light
He bears a message for the world
On this dark but hopeful night
Far too many broken promises
Have left the world in sorrow
But change is in the air tonight
And love will shine tomorrow

Soon the sun will rise upon this life that’s just begun
This child who’s come to change the world and bring hope to everyone
The baby lies in silence, but he knows the words he’ll say
And the darkness will begin to fade
With the dawn of Christmas day

He’ll say:
Be ever ready to forgive
Share the blessings that you’ve earned
Do good without expecting
Anything in return
Love thy neighbor as thyself
Treat him as you’d have him treat you
And turn to faith, and turn to love, and turn to kindness
And your world will be renewed
Your world will be renewed

Soon the sun will rise upon this life that’s just begun
This child who’s come to change the world and bring hope to everyone
The baby lies in silence, but he knows the words he’ll say
And the darkness will begin to fade
With the dawn of Christmas day
