Just an Old Love Song

Words and Music by Christopher Kent

Every now and then, when things are slowing down
I’ll sit and play some old love song I’ve found
And I’ll remember good times
When living was just a game
We never cared for living by a plan
There wasn’t much we had to understand
We had the time to let things go,
And you know it just ain’t the same…
It always seemed so easy back then
Sometimes I guess it does
But that was just an old love song I wrote
Back before I knew what love was

Love is such as easy word to build your dreams around
And when you don’t have much to lose, you’re bound
To run across it somewhere
In a lover or a friend
Sometimes I wonder if it should have worked out that way
With an ending like a sad old play
When it seemed so fine along the way
Guess it just had to end
It always seemed so right to me then
Sometimes I guess it does
But that was just an old love song I wrote
Back before I knew what love was

I guess we never really understood
We only saw the things we thought we would
A grand illusion all our own we tried so hard to play
But still, you know, it really wasn’t wrong
Sometimes you have to sing a few sad songs
Before you find the place you belong
And a love that won’t fade away
So if you hear me singing late some night
You know it’s just because
I’m thinking ‘bout someone I used to love
Back before I knew what love was…

It’s just an old love song I wrote
Back before I knew what love was
