Inevitable
Words and Music by Christopher Kent
Woke up this morning, my life was a mess
I’m caught between dismay and confusion, I guess
Some days seem like checkers, but today seems like chess
 Nevertheless
I proceed as if success is inevitable
Now it’s true that I’m older, the horizon looks near
And the road to my plans and desires is less clear
Life gives us a chance, then it comes to repossess
 Nevertheless
I proceed as if success is inevitable
We all get discouraged as we struggle up the hill
There’s a fountain at the top where we’ll all drink our fill
And we try not to worry about who’s gonna pay the bill
But I can’t shake the feeling that we’re just standing still
Now it’s hard to be perfect, but I try, more or less
Though I’m never quite sure who I’m trying to impress
My confident exterior disguises my distress
 Nevertheless
I proceed as if success is inevitable
We fight for what we believe in (if we know what that is)
I try to like the things I have, instead of wanting what’s his
Sometimes the guy who seemed so dumb turns out to be a whiz
And the world keeps getting weirder, but they say “It is what it is”
They tell me I should not confuse pressure and stress
But I’ve got so many thoughts there’s no time to express
I think I’ve found the answer, and then I stop and reassess
 Nevertheless
I proceed as if success is inevitable
Some days it’s no, some days it’s yes
Either way, I proceed as if success is inevitable
