Halcyon Day

Words and music by Christopher Kent

It’s a halcyon day, there’s a sweet, gentle wind
Cool air, bright sun warm on my skin
I sit on the porch, a cool drink in my glass
Smelling the pine trees and new-mown grass
A stranger walks by at a casual pace
Caught up in the moment, a smile on his face
Some days are just golden, like honey in jars
It’s a halcyon day on this planet of ours

We walk through a cornfield that stretches for miles
And push back the stalks as we go, single file
Up above I can see a hawk circle and glide
Riding an updraft, his wings open wide
The cornstalks are rustling in the summertime breeze
The sky is the color of Caribbean seas
Wind chimes in the distance sound like Spanish guitars
It’s a halcyon day on this planet of ours

In the fullness of time, I know I will recall
The peace of this moment, the joy of it all
It’s a planet of life, of power and grace
It’s the home that sustains us through all of our days

There’s a beautiful sunset to welcome the night
The sky turns scarlet, a warm glowing light
The long shadows cast just an hour ago
Have faded and blurred as the sun settles low
Now slowly, the orange ball sinks out of view
And the dusk turns from scarlet to purple to blue
And we watch as the endless sky fills up with stars
It’s a halcyon day on this planet of ours

It’s a halcyon day, a glorious day
It’s a halcyon day on this planet of ours
