A Christmas to Remember
Words and Music by Christopher Kent
In our very small apartment in the heart of New York City
It was Christmastime again and all the streets were done up pretty
We didn’t have much money, my wife and I, but we had a lot of cheer
And a little plastic Christmas tree we kept stashed away all year
We pulled it from the air shaft in its garbage bag protector
My wife made sure it looked just right (she’s our Christmas art director)
We set it on the coffee table and sat down on the rug
Where we shared some milk and cookies, and a heartfelt Christmas hug
No matter what the circumstance when Christmas day arrives
The spirit of the season shines its light into our lives
We may not have a fancy tree or gifts from Santa’s sleigh
But we always have a Christmas to remember anyway
On a warm and humid Christmas eve in a Florida motel
Just a few strings of Christmas lights, and a balmy ocean smell
We sat beside by the motel pool, my wife and I
And talked about the home we missed and Christmases gone by
The idea of December snow and reindeer pulling a sleigh
Seemed like some forgotten world that was a million miles away
But I pulled out my guitar and sang some Christmas cheer
And one window cranked open so somebody could hear
No matter what the circumstance when Christmas day arrives
The spirit of the season shines its light into our lives
We may not have a fancy tree or gifts from Santa’s sleigh
But we always have a Christmas to remember anyway
We have so much to be grateful for, but sometimes it’s hard to see
It’s easier to think of things that aren’t the way we wish they’d be
But no matter what our burdens, or what we’ve left behind us
The spirit of the season always seem to find us
We were driving through the mountains in cold December snow
On our way to our new home, Christmas songs on the radio
We laughed about the irony of moving on Christmas Eve
And we talked about the friends we’d miss, the lives we had to leave
When we arrived, the only food was a local Chinese place
So we ate while Chinese carols put a smile upon our face
Back at the house we hung a string of lights to give our spirits a lift
And in the morning our new lives began, a wondrous Christmas gift
No matter what the circumstance when Christmas day arrives
The spirit of the season shines its light into our lives
We may not have a fancy tree or gifts from Santa’s sleigh
But we always have a Christmas to remember anyway
