California Dreaming (Never Had Much Meaning For Me)
Words and Music by Christopher Kent
I woke up late this morning with the sunlight on my wall
And winter still inside the earth
You know it’s times like this when I miss you most of all
And I love the freedom that I see in your eyes
But I’ve never seen your vision, girl, ‘cause somehow it always dies
I’ve seen enough of life to know the way things are bound to be
And California dreaming never really had much meaning for me
I noticed just this morning all the leaves have turned to brown
And it seems I’ve grown another year
Every time I raise my head and look around
And my hopes and wishes, they grow old along with me
Sometimes I wonder why I keep on trying, pretending that I’m free
I’ve seen enough of life to know the way things are bound to be
And California dreaming never really had much meaning for me
Well if you want to go, girl, you go on now
I know we have to dream our own dreams
And I saw the wind and mountains in your eyes and in your words
And I knew that like the wild birds
You’d be leaving long before the winter came
I found my coat this morning; it was cold early in the day
 And soon the autumn clouds
Are going to turn my blue summer sky to gray
And I’ll miss your laughing—the way things used to be
But I’ll think about you when I feel the sunlight
And that’s enough of a dream for me
‘Cause I’ve seen enough of you and me
To know this was how things had to be
And California dreaming never could have had much meaning for me
